HONEY UPSIDE DOWN I’ll learn to turn the honey upside down Things that sweet, they take more time and I can’t have this now So, walk away from it, tell myself That it wouldn’t have been ready anyhow Things that sweet, they take more time To work out. My neighbor Bertha said When she borrowed a sponge “Sometimes what’s good needs to Sit and get ripe like a plum. So, walk away from whatever you can’t change It needs to grow with no help from you, hon’. Things that good need to Sit and get ripe like a plum.” Walk away from whatever you can’t change It needs to grow with no help from you, hon’. Things that good need to Sit and get ripe like a plum. Walk away from it, tell myself That it wouldn’t have been ready anyhow Things that sweet, they take more time and I can’t have this now Things that sweet, they take more time To work out. I’ll have to turn the honey upside down.

Lone Coyote 03:13
LONE COYOTE I was in the arms of a woven wool blanket Kissing on steam from sage and chamomile Then in between the lines of Tolstoy I got lonely So I headed for the Allegheny Hills I wonder if I’ll meet and tame ya Somewhere out in Pennsylvania Along a lakeshore running or working in the corn Love is a lone coyote She’s not looking for somebody She just wakes up next to you By accident one morn. Clouds lined the woodland like smoke from chimneys And I smelled turnips and potatoes from their plates Then every kettle whistled a sweet romantic story And the Susquehanna called my name I wonder if I’ll meet and tame ya Somewhere out in Pennsylvania Along a lakeshore running or working in the corn Love is a lone coyote She’s not looking for somebody She just wakes up next to you By accident one morn. Mmm. Mmm. I wonder if I’ll meet and tame ya Somewhere out in Pennsylvania Along a lakeshore running or working in the corn Love is a lone coyote She’s not looking for somebody She just wakes up next to you By accident one morn. Love is a lone coyote She’s not looking for somebody She just wakes up next to you By accident one morning.

The Drifter 02:06
I wasn’t born to travel, I was born to run away Anyplace I end up, I probably won’t stay But I wasn’t born to break hearts, I was born to love I’m just looking for the drifter to join me on the run. After everyone I left, you think I would give up Swallow some old pill that says the restless do not love After I’d been hurt you’d think I’d hesitate to trust But you could be the drifter to join me on the run. I wasn’t born to need you every waking hour of the day I was born to want you exactly this way And I wasn’t born to settle like a footprint in cement I was born a bobcat and I’m wild as I can get. After everyone I left, you think I would give up But I’m looking for the drifter to join me on the run. I’m looking for the drifter to join me on the run. I’m looking for the drifter to join me on the run.

LOW IN THE LAURELS The ground that cradled the nukes was quakin’ The windows on the rockets breakin’ But the frogs were singing and I was makin’ love The farms I knew became a home For the lying, the rich, and the war drones But the minnows were swimmin’ and I was grinnin’. Now there’s plastic fruit on the countertops No more clementines in the hollow. They congregate around those big screens While I lie low in the laurels. The teller at the fillin’ station Blue bag queen of destinations, said “Your wishes die, then they fossilize and You’ll pay for them.” My neighbors prayed for gasoline They filled up tanks with their dead dreams But I was barefoot runnin’ with the paper bees. Now there’s plastic fruit on the countertops No more clementines in the hollow. They congregate around those big screens While I lie low in the laurels. There’s plastic fruit on the countertops No more clementines in the hollow. They congregate around those big screens While I lie low in the laurels.

Little Creek 02:45
LITTLE CREEK Little Creek wraps round my shins and Just like love, there I fell in I fell into Little Creek And the seeds from the pines stuck to my skin. Oh, the needles from the pines they kissed me! Heron leaves the branch she’s in and It falls into the creek we’re in and It splashes you right on your nose and I taste its water on my chin Then like that creek, you kissed me! Oh, all I can see when I taste that water Is how we danced among bluebonnets I hope you know that was all I ever wanted… Oh, all I can see when I taste that water Is how we danced among bluebonnets I hope you know that was all I ever wanted…

Quilt 03:19
QUILT Oh, the pony doesn’t know you like the pony knows his rope Every pony falls in love with his handler And the ivy doesn’t climb towards the sun or the shade of the pine Every vine grows at whim like a rambler. And everywhere I’ve gone, every love that I got wrong Guided me to this porch where we are standing. Press both hands into the door - we’ll walk across that wooden floor Fold a granny quilt and lay down where we were planted. Oh, the desert doesn’t wind like a river or with brine But every desert within time becomes an ocean And the mountain doesn’t dance, it doesn’t waver where it stands But every mountain takes command of every motion. And everywhere I’ve been, every love that I pretended Guided me to this porch where we are standing. Press both hands into the door - we’ll walk across that wooden floor Fold a granny quilt and lay down where we were planted. Oh, everywhere I’ve been, every love that I pretended Guided me to this porch where we are standing. Press both hands into the door - we’ll walk across that wooden floor Fold a granny quilt and lay down where we were planted. Oh, everywhere I’ve gone, every love that I got wrong Guided me to this porch where we are standing. Press both hands into the door - we’ll walk across that wooden floor Fold a granny quilt and lay down where we were planted.

BED & BREAKFAST I’ve been cleaning, washing other people’s dirty dishes Pouring their coffees, pouring their teas And making their sandwiches. So, give me a home where I can bear rent I can make my own bed and breakfast I’m easy to please Man, I just need a nest Oh, give me a home. I’ve been painting walls in big mansions And edging their garden rows And I’ve taken care of other people’s children I’ve helped them pick out their clothes. So, give me a home where I can bear rent I can make my own bed and breakfast I’m easy to please Man, I just need a nest Oh, give me a home. People like me, we don’t really need Marble baths and granite countertops But we are good neighbors, we are good tenants We’re simply not at the top. So, give me a home where I can bear rent I can make my own bed and breakfast I’m easy to please, man - I just need a nest Oh, give me a home. Oh, give me a home where I can bear rent I can make my own bed and breakfast I’m easy to please, man - I just need a nest Oh, give me a home.

Coonhound 03:46
COONHOUND I haven’t given up yet on findin’ true love But I’m goin’ down to the pound I’m gonna bring home a dog She’s gonna have the sharpest eyes in town And the keenest nose Blackest fur on her back So it won’t show up on my black clothes I’m goin’ down to the pound I’m gonna bring home a coonhound And we’re gonna roam all around a-sniffin’. I’ve given so much thought to The kind of companion I want And I can’t settle down for some sweet kitty. I’d rather spend my nights Walkin’ in alleys without bar lights Whistling tunes and bayin’ at the moon from my city. I’m goin’ down to the pound I’m gonna bring home a coonhound And we’re gonna roam all around a-sniffin’. And maybe, but hey, I won’t count on it Some night while we’re out walkin’ past the garbage A beautiful little bandit might look at me red-handed and say “I’ve been searchin’ through trash all day And I finally found you -- heyyy!” I’m goin’ down to the pound I’m gonna bring home a coonhound And we’re gonna roam all around a-sniffin’. I’m goin’ down to the pound I’m gonna bring home a coonhound And we’re gonna roam all around a-sniffin’.
